Leica Robotic Total Station and Field Controller

Arthur Hudson has just acquired the latest Leica Robotic Total Station and Field Controller.

The Viva TS15 has Automatic Target Recognition, Target Tracking and can be controlled remotely by use of the Field Controller.  The use of this equipment provides the following benefits to our clients;

  • Cost saving – The Engineer does not always require a second man and he does not have to spend time locating the target.

  • Greater accuracy and time saving– Because the system automatically locks on to the target and continues to track it, the Engineer can be sure that the target is set perfectly and surveyed accurately.

  • Improved survey results- The Viva has its own built in camera, which can photograph every point surveyed, this can validate the results and help communication between the Engineers the client and other trades. The photographs can also be embedded in the Autocad drawings or Handovers is required.

Here the Viva is set up in a mewp and remotely controlled using the field controller to enable the engineer to survey both crane rails accurately.

The rails were 42m long, 16m apart and 12m high. Both rails were surveyed with only one resection, saving time and giving the Engineers peace of mind that the rails were surveyed in the correct places and allowing for other survey work to be done

This robotic system can also be combined with a GPS system which will allow us to broaden our scope of works to include more Civil Engineering, Topographic and Utility Surveying. This should be of great benefit on some projects by providing continuity of engineering with the same Engineer being involved at the very beginning with the setting out of it as well as lining and levelling of the steel and then see it through to the cladding and roofing.
